As was stated on the homepage, I am retired from the Canadian Military. Overseas missions were the highlights of my career, having spent two extended tours to the Golan Heights and one very interesting tour to Bosnia i Herzegovina. Military communications was my main job, from handling voice radio comms to compact digital data transfer. It was an interesting and challenging time, working with older legacy equipment to state of the art satellite comms. Adapting and thriving in a fast paced environment was normal life for a modern soldier. When the general wear and tear of army life started having adverse effects on me, I started searching for something to do "on the outside". Having always been keen on new technology and learning new software fairly easily, this naturally led me to look towards the world wide web. I was eased along this path by being tasked with keeping track of personel and equipment for western Canada in the last 15 months of employment with the military. Learning a multitude of new software and systems came naturally to me. Planning for further education commenced upon starting the above task. I looked into programs offered by local colleges in the Edmonton area. I decided upon the Digital and Interactive Media Design Program that was being offered at Alberta College. This program was in the midst of being moved from Alberta College and ended up being one of the first programs held in the recently completed HP Centre for information technology at NAIT. Being a new program in a new facility meant that the equipment and software were all new. There were very few technological glitches which led to a fairly smooth running curriculum. The broad scope of the program held my interest and gave me insight into which discipline I would pursue. Design for the world wide web was the desired path.
